Kawasaki Motorcycle Oil Filters
Kawasaki is world renowned for their line of hyper-performance street bikes and race motorcycles. The motorcycle division, which began in 1949, got its start when Kawasaki Aircraft Company built their very first motorcycle engine. In 1953, Kawasaki’s engine went into production for public consumer use and in 1954, the company developed their own original motorcycle called Meihatsu. The sales of Meihatsu motorcycles helped Kawasaki obtain enough production capital which allowed them to open a brand new, dedicated motorcycle manufacturing plant. In 1960, Kawasaki entered a partnership with Japan’s longest-running motorcycle company, Meguro. 1962 saw the birth of the successful Kawasaki-Meguro B8 but after 2 more years, Kawasaki purchased Meguro and took full control over the beleaguered, once-illustrious marque. The B8 motorcycle formed the basis of which all of Kawasaki’s following performance bikes followed. From the KX series of motocross bikes to the flagship Ninja sport bike, Kawasaki stands as one of the top premier names in 2-wheel powersports performance and high-performance motorcycles for the street and for the racetrack.
One of the most popular aftermarket brands in motorsports is K&N Engineering. Founded in 1964 by Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald, K&N began out of necessity for high-flow, durable air filters that could withstand the dirt, debris, and abuse of motorcycle racing. The first K&N air filter was produced in 1969. It featured medical-quality cotton gauze that was lightly coated in oil to allow higher airflow while providing optimal engine protection from harmful airborne particulates and debris. This became the standard K&N air filter that performance enthusiasts are familiar with today. K&N’s success in the motorcycle aftermarket eventually led them to create oil filters of their own design; both spin-on and cartridge type K&N oil filters were engineered with the same level of performance as their famous reusable air filters.
