That’s because K&N Engineering is a leading innovator in high-performance technology. Founded in the early 1960s by Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald, motorcycle and motorcycle parts dealers based out of Riverside, California, K&N (the first name initials of the company’s founders) started life as a motorcycle factory racing team. Their experiences on the racetrack led to a demand for higher-quality air filters that performed better than the standard equipment they were already using. In 1969, K&N developed their first product: a washable and reusable air filter that replaced the traditional paper media with medical-grade cotton gauze. This would come to be known as the ‘Filtercharger’ and remains today as one of K&N’s core essential products. K&N would later gain fame and notoriety in the automotive field with their high-performance bolt-on cold air intake systems that provided superior cleaning capabilities and allowed for greater flow of intake air, thus utilizing the engine’s true horsepower output. Later, K&N grew their product lineup to over 5,000 individual parts for cars, trucks, motorcycles, and both large-scale industrial and small-scale engines. In addition to the ‘Filtercharger’ air filter and their cold air intakes, K&N Engineering also developed a line of high-performance oil filters, both spin-on and cartridge style.
