Suzuki Motorcycle Oil Filters

Long before Suzuki Motor Corporation became an industry giant in the field of motor vehicles, the company that would later be known for their innovative and high-performance ATVs, powersports machines, and motorcycles began life in 1909 in the tiny seacoast village of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan as a loom machine manufacturer. The success of the loom machine led company founder Michio Suzuki to take the initiative and venture into a brand new market driven by consumer demand; small automobiles. World War II was a period of peaks and valleys for Suzuki, who was forced to revert back to loom production due to the Japanese government’s enforced ban of non-essential commodity production. The return to the loom business was successful, but short-lived. After World War II, the Japanese turned their attention towards cheap, reliable transportation and, just as Honda capitalized on the situation, Suzuki began crafting their own line of simplistic, easy-to-own/easy-to-maintain motorcycles. These were basic bicycles that used a “clip on” style 36cc gas engine for motivation. This became the Power Free motorcycle, Suzuki’s original motorcycle. By 1954, Suzuki’s motorcycle business allowed them to further expand their automobile lineup and, in turn, evolve their motorcycle designs. Without the Power Free, iconic models such as the V-Strom, GS450T, GS550, and the flagship Boulevard cruiser would not have been possible.

One of the most popular aftermarket brands in motorsports is K&N Engineering. Founded in 1964 by Ken Johnson and Norm McDonald, K&N began out of necessity for high-flow, durable air filters that could withstand the dirt, debris, and abuse of motorcycle racing. The first K&N air filter was produced in 1969. It featured medical-quality cotton gauze that was lightly coated in oil to allow higher airflow while providing optimal engine protection from harmful airborne particulates and debris. This became the standard K&N air filter that performance enthusiasts are familiar with today. K&N’s success in the motorcycle aftermarket eventually led them to create oil filters of their own design; both spin-on and cartridge type K&N oil filters were engineered with the same level of performance as their famous reusable air filters.
